The FG Knot

The FG Knot is one of the strongest and most reliable knots for connecting a braided fishing line to a fluorocarbon or monofilament leader. It has a smooth profile, making it ideal for casting through rod guides without snagging.

How to Tie the FG Knot

Step 1: Secure the Braid

  • Wrap the braid mainline around a solid object or hold it in your mouth to keep tension.

Step 2: Start Weaving

  • Take your fluorocarbon/mono leader and place it underneath the braid.
  • Wrap the braid over the leader, alternating sides.
    • First, bring the braid over the leader from one side.
    • Then, wrap it over from the opposite side.
  • Repeat at least 16–24 wraps (more wraps for thinner braid).

Step 3: Lock the Wraps

  • Pull both ends of the braid to tighten the wraps onto the leader.

Step 4: Tie Half Hitches

  • Make a half-hitch knot around both the leader and braid.
  • Repeat 2-3 times.

Step 5: Trim & Secure

  • Trim the leader as close as possible to the wraps.
  • Add two more half-hitches around only the braid for extra security.

Step 6: Tighten Everything

  • Pull the braid hard to fully secure the knot.
  • The wraps should tighten and grip the leader smoothly.

This knot is super strong and won’t slip when tied correctly. Perfect for saltwater and freshwater fishing!
